Job search in times of Covid-19
Job searching is never easy, especially in uncertain times. Rejection and withdraws are part of it. Patience, resilience, and deep breathing are required now more than ever.
Here are some tips for job searching during the Covid-19 pandemic:
Self-care: as a first step, take good care of your physical and mental health. Dance, run, practice yoga. Meditate. Whatever works for you, do more of that. Mind and body are one.
Do not take yourself out of the job search process
Keep in touch with your network
Develop a new list of target companies – more focus on remote work (see bullet below)
Stay active in your LinkedIn interest groups (like, comment, share)
Skill up, keep learning
Prepare for a video interview. Just like before the pandemic, research and preparation are essential to interview well. Prepare your space – recruiters can see you and your space (neat and clean, uncluttered, good lighting).
Do a trial run to avoid technology issues as much as you can
Practice talking to the camera with a friend. Have your notes in front of you.
When you are invited to a video meeting, login and try it hours before the start time. Recruiters can see your activity, someone who’s tried before the meeting gives a better impression
Some companies are filling remote positions, however, they are challenged by when to start new employees and how to onboard them effectively
